The Diploma in Medical Genetics is the second phase of the progressive 9-month pathway, designed to expand student expertise from cancer-focused genetics into broader medical and clinical genetics.

This phase emphasizes disease interpretation, genetic testing, ethical responsibility, and translational understanding, preparing students for:

• More advanced internship responsibilities
• Research assistant and clinical-support roles
• Progression into AI-enabled genomics research

Students typically enter this phase after completing the Certificate in Cancer Genetics, having already gained access to the learning platform and foundational training.

• Basics of Genetics
• Rare Genetic Disorders
• Genetic Testing, Gene Therapy & Genetic Counseling
• Genetic Engineering

Together, these courses provide a comprehensive medical genetics framework, moving students beyond theory into applied interpretation and responsible use of genetic information.

During the Diploma phase, students continue structured internship- and career-readiness training, building on the foundation established during the Certificate.

This includes:

• Case-based interpretation of genetic disorders
• Understanding how genetic tests are selected and interpreted
• Ethical and professional communication of genetic findings
• Exposure to translational genetics concepts relevant to diagnostics, biotech, and pharmaceutical environments

The Diploma phase helps students demonstrate depth, maturity, and applied competence, strengthening their profiles for internships, research roles, and advanced academic pathways.

Internships and roles are competitive and not guaranteed. This phase focuses on preparation and readiness rather than placement.

This phase is designed to:

• Broaden expertise beyond cancer into general medical genetics
• Develop clinical reasoning and ethical awareness
• Prepare students for higher-level internship or research responsibilities
• Serve as a bridge to advanced genomics and AI-based research training

Students who complete this phase may:

• Exit with a Diploma in Medical Genetics, or
• Progress to the Research Diploma in Medical Genomics & AI (final phase)

The Diploma phase equips students with applied medical genetics competence, enabling them to move confidently toward research, industry, or advanced genomics pathways.
